Peaceful Warrior

It’s the “Karate Kid” meets "The Other Side of the Mountain” in this inspirational gymnast story. Set at Cal Berkeley, Yoda-like Zen training from a quickie mart/service station philosopher (Nick Nolte), dubbed Socrates, helps an aspiring Olympian, Dan Millman, recoup after a life shattering incident. Alien could almost hear “wax on, wax off” and “do or do not, there is no try” being whispered in his ear during the movie. This real life story does take you on a couple of magical, mystical, mystery detours.
Alien gives it 2 ½ “take out the trash” stars out of 4.
