Gracie
Based on the true events of the Shue family, this is the wonderfully inspirational story of a girl’s dream to play on a boys high school soccer team in 1978. Carly Schroeder is very convincing as 15 year old Gracie Bowen. She is tough and determined. She will take you through many emotions as she experiences tragedy, grief, discrimination, humiliation, and triumph. You will feel for Gracie as she struggles against all odds and will be cheering for her at the big game. It’s a feel good family film about girl power and believing in yourself. It is a bit cheesy and contrived, but being a sucker for underdog stories, Alien really enjoyed this positive motivational movie. The film is dedicated to William Shue. Old family photos and film footage of the Shues run during the credits.
Alien gives it 3 “Title IX” stars out of 4.
