Fame

Young raw talent come together at New York's Performance Arts School in this remake based on the popular original movie and TV series. The teachers are portrayed by familiar faces and the students are relative unknowns. The audience will be dazzled by the fabulous song and dance numbers. Updated with rap and hip hop, this movie is entertaining enough, but the film looks overly theatrical and staged as it races through 4 years of education with most of the scenes shot outside of school. The stories are predictable and the developing relationships don't feel real. Like the teachers of PA, Alien had higher expectations for this potential collective of talent so I can only give it a passing grade and recommend returning to Iowa.

Alien gives it 2 "go for your dreams" stars out of 4.
