A History of Violence

This film asks the questions: can a man put his past behind him and how far can a non-violent person be pushed before they explode? Is Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) a peaceful family man from a small town or a violent killer from Philly named Joey Cusack? A heroic event puts Tom and his family in a life altering situation. This film is rated “R” for language, graphic sexuality, and extremely violent images. Mortensen skillfully plays the Tom/Joey role, but the film left Alien feeling disturbed and unsatisfied at the end. The film is about violence, but it is against violence by exposing its brutality.

Alien gives it 2 “dual personalities” stars out of 4.
