Bridge to Terabithia
It’s “Chronicles of Narnia” meets “Lord of the Rings” meets “Pan’s Labyrinth” in this bitter sweet story of two fifth grade social outcasts who band together to create their own private fantasy kingdom, Terabithia. Artist Jesse and story teller Leslie use their imagination to escape the pressures at home and school. The story deals the common anxieties of preteens: being different, bullies, abuse, making friends, crushes, loss, and grieving. Like “Pan’s Labyrinth”, this film deals more in the real world than the imaginary one filled with trolls, squogres, tiny winged warriors, and the Dark Master. This movie is more suitable for older children and adults because it doesn’t pull any punches while telling this emotional story with real and touching characters.
Alien gives it 3 “open your mind” stars out of 4.
