In Dublin, a guy with a beat up guitar meets a girl with a broken Hoover and they end up making beautiful music together. A lonely street musician struggling just to earn tips and dreaming of becoming a recording star begins his hopeful journey with the encouragement from a rose-peddling Czech immigrant. They are attracted to each other as they form a strong bond and make a creative song writing team. Two good performances here make their characters feel real and natural. You’ll soon be rooting for their success. Alien enjoyed this raw and simple story about down-to-earth people with hopes and dreams. This small and quiet film may not be for everyone, but it is filled with some terrific songs. It is an uncommon musical that doesn’t seem to be a musical.
Alien gives it 2 ½ “lyrics and harmony” stars out of 4.
