I, Tonya
This is not a sneak preview. This film has already released.
This biopic of U.S. Olympic figure skating contender Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) is played as a dark comedy. Based on the conflicting interviews of the principal characters involved, it’s a fascinating rise to fame & infamy story detailing the abusive life behind the talented skate girl who fought an uphill battle against her poor white trailer trash image. It is a clever sad & funny tongue in cheek recount leading up to the famous Nancy Kerrigan “incident”. Sebastian Stan plays the ex-husband & Alison Janney gives an outstanding performance as the foul mouth hard driving mother. Robbie is brilliant as the young competitor with a chip on her shoulder who was desperately seeking fame & love. Toss in a couple of idiots for good measure to wrap up this extraordinary tragic tale. Look for a summary & a skating clip of the real Tonya Harding at the end.
Alien gives it 3 “triple axel” stars out of 4.
