My Spy
A covert CIA surveillance operation becomes compromised when precocious 9-year-old Sophie (Chloe Coleman) outwits & blackmails the 2 agents assigned to keep watch on Sophie & her mom Kate. The surveillance team features the macho brute-force seasoned field operative JJ (Dave Bautista) & his idolizing tech assistant Bobbi (Kristen Schaal). This is a hilarious action comedy that has no trouble poking fun at itself. There is great chemistry between Bautista & Coleman. He is the tough guy who is a softy inside. She is adorably cute & smarter than anyone in the room. It’s about some misfit loners dealing with their deep seated issues, their bullies, & their jealousies, but they discover their true selves in the end. It’s predictable but entertaining. Ken Jeong is in the supporting cast but is under utilized & is a waste of his comedic talent.
Alien gives it 3½ “pinkie promise” stars out of 4.
