Attack of the Unknown

It's “Assault on Precinct 13” meets “War of the Worlds” when an alien invasion interrupts a S.W.A.T. team’s mission to transport a high profile drug king pin. This promising premise with potential may have been doomed from the start due its low budget allowance. We end up with a C level film hindered by cheesy dumb dialog, awful acting, & underwhelming special effects. No real tension or suspense is generated by the transparent plot & archetype characters. The aliens look like they came straight out of a 50’s sci-fi film (This Island Earth). The S.W.A.T. team looks like they belong more in an undercover vice squad than an elite group of professional assault experts. Their after-work cop bar visit is set at a strip joint for some gratuitous nude scenes. There doesn’t seem to be much logic driving the script. Somehow the storyline takes a leap of convenience when necessary. An old Mexican legend about ampires from space is the only clue about these unknown aliens. If you are only in it for the action, you might have a somewhat ok time. You might even find it good for a few laughs, even though it wasn’t intentionally written to be funny.

Alien gives it 1½ “bad blood” stars out of 4.
