Shelter
Jason Statham’s latest film is called “Shelter”. Many of his films follow the same pattern. He is loner laying low trying to be unnoticed. But he is a good guy with special skills. Usually someone needs saving or needs to be avenged, so he must spring into action. Typically, there is a bad guy & his henchmen trying to kill him. Predictable, but fun to watch. This storyline tries to be more mysterious as it slowly feeds the audience information. A reclusive guy (Jason Statham) & his dog live on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. A young girl & her uncle routinely bring supplies by boat to the island. During a big storm, the recluse saves the girl from drowning. She is injured & when this recluse heads into town for medical supplies, MI-6 observers spots him with their face recognition program. People are covertly sent to get him. Thus, the fun & wild chase begins as the recluse & the girl must run for safety as they both become targets for different people. The two fugitives start to bond but it is too dangerous for her to be with him as he must take out those who trying to kill him. Jason does what he does best, hand to hand combat. The little girl is terrific. She brings out the human side of Statham’s harden character. Along the way, we learn about who is who & why some are after them.
Alien gives it 3 “black queen” stars out of 4.
