The Devil’s Mouth
Just in time for Shark Week.
It’s “Jaws”/“Thrash” meets “Thirteen Lives” meets “Descent” when five friends decide to go swimming at the Devil’s Mouth cave. in Thailand. Sara (Kathryn Newton) & Max (Lana Condir) are BFFs. They are on vacation with Adrienne, Greg, & James. As their exotic vacation progresses, their friendships get tested when personalities clash & resentments escalate as a bull shark begins to circle their guided group tour. Tension & suspense build as arguments & bad decisions are made. At each bad decision, your brain with be screaming no, no, no. To heighten the audience’s experience, this bull shark makes several jaw biting appearances. I’m not sure how realistic the shark movements were, but they were designed to scare you out of your seat. Predictably, the group is being whittled down one by one. Any guesses on who if any will survive or how anyone can escape? There a few twists & turns to keep audiences guessing. This elaborate cave was an interesting set of compartments to explore before fear & panic broke out. If you enjoy cave exploration & have a fear of sharks, you might have a thrilling time.
Alien gives it 2½ “Bat Cave” stars out of 4.
