James (Brad Pitt) is a retired special forces solder on hunting/fishing vacation in some remote parts of the Alaskan wilderness. His favorite companion is Odin, a combat scout dog from his active duty days. While piloting his small plane, James suffers a medical emergency & crashes his plane. From there this becomes a survivalist story as the lost James & Odin must trek many miles & outcome many obstacles to reach civilization again.
